  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 12 slices wafer-thin chicken ham
  • 150g cheddar cheese, finely grated
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 240ml milk
  • 60g gruyere cheese (grated)
  • Salt
  • White pepper
  • Nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out one sheet of puff pastry on a floured surface and spread with Dijon mustard. Layer chicken ham and cheddar cheese on top, then cover with the second pastry sheet.
  3. Cut into a Christmas tree shape with branches about 1-inch wide and twist each branch gently.
  4. Brush with beaten egg for a golden finish and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  5. For the Cheesy Mornay Sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan, stir in flour until smooth, gradually whisk in milk until thickened; add gruyere cheese and seasonings.
