These delightful pastries are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or any time you crave something special. With their rich buttery flavor and versatile nature, croissants can be enjoyed plain or filled with sweet or savory ingredients. While the process may seem daunting, this guide simplifies it, allowing you to master the art of homemade croissants in no time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 50g sugar
  • 10g salt
  • 10g dry yeast
  • 250ml warm water
  • 250g cold unsalted butter
  • 1 egg (for brushing)
  • Powdered sugar (optional for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and dry yeast. Gradually add warm water to form a smooth dough. Knead for about 5–7 minutes until elastic.
  2. Shape the dough into a ball, cover with a cloth, and let it rest for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  3. While resting, place cold butter between parchment sheets and roll into a rectangle. Refrigerate for 10–15 minutes.
  4. Roll out the rested dough into a larger rectangle and enclose the chilled butter inside. Roll and fold the dough in thirds to create layers. Repeat once more before chilling for another hour.
  5. Roll out again and cut into triangles. Roll each triangle tightly to shape croissants and place on lined baking sheets to rise for another hour.
  6. Brush with beaten egg and bake at 200°C (392°F) for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
