Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups cold whole milk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup chocolate batons or semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
  • Confectioners’ sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually mix in cold milk until a rough dough forms. Knead gently until smooth.
  2. Roll softened butter between parchment sheets into a rectangle and chill while the dough rises.
  3. Roll out dough into a rectangle and encase the chilled butter before rolling and folding several times to create layers.
  4. Cut triangles from the rolled dough, place chocolate at the base, and roll tightly into croissants.
  5. Arrange on a lined baking sheet, allow to rise until doubled in size (about 45 minutes).
  6. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and brush croissants with milk before baking for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Dust with confectioners' sugar before serving warm.
