Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup raw pecans
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2⅓ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2½ tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Simmer raw pecans in maple syrup for about 5 minutes, strain them (saving the syrup), then toss with dark brown sugar and cinnamon before baking for 10 minutes until toasted.
  3. Brown one stick of salted butter over medium heat until golden, then mix it with the rest of the room temperature butter.
  4. In a large bowl, beat the browned butter and sugars until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well. Gradually incorporate flour, baking soda, and salt; fold in chocolate chips and most candied pecans.
  5. Scoop dough into balls, freeze for 5 minutes on the prepared sheet, then bake for 11-12 minutes.
  6. For frosting, mix powdered sugar with reserved syrup and milk until smooth; dip each cookie in frosting and top with remaining pecans.
