Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 cup cold whole milk (or almond milk)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 6 oz chocolate batons (or high-quality chocolate chips)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually stir in cold milk until combined and knead until smooth.
  2. Roll butter between parchment paper into a rectangle and place it onto the rolled-out dough, folding the edges over to encase it completely.
  3. Roll the dough into a long rectangle and fold it into thirds like a letter. Repeat this process two more times.
  4. Cut the dough into triangles, place chocolate batons on each base, roll tightly from base to tip, and curve ends to form crescent shapes.
  5. Place shaped croissants on lined baking sheets and let them rise until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C), brush croissants with an egg wash made from beaten egg and milk, then bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Dust with confectioners' sugar before serving warm.
