Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef chuck or stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced (plus extra for naan)
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp chili powder (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Gradually add warm water until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place it in an oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise for 1 hour.
  2. In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent. Incorporate minced garlic and grated ginger; cook until fragrant.
  3. Stir in tomato paste followed by crushed tomatoes. Cook for about 5 minutes before adding beef broth, coconut milk, curry powder, garam masala, cumin, coriander powder, turmeric, chili powder (if using), salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil.
  4. Once boiling, reduce heat to low. Add beef cubes to the pot. Cover and let simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours or until beef is tender.
  5. After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide into four equal pieces. Roll each piece into an oval shape using a rolling pin. Cook each naan on a hot skillet for about 2 minutes per side or until bubbly and golden brown.
  6. Serve your flavorful Indian-Style Beef Curry hot with freshly made garlic naan on the side. Garnish with chopped cilantro for an added touch!
